At a projected one point one billion dollar defect Minnesota law makers are once again tossing around the idea to promote a sales tax on clothing. 

It's an idea that clothing retailers just across the river in Minnesota are having a hard time with. It's a huge draw for many looking to draw business into Minnesota at about a seven percent discount on clothes. Especially for higher end clothing like wedding dresses and tuxedo purchases that often times will run shoppers into hundreds of dollars. 

"That's quite a bit of savings by coming over on this side of the river. If they change that advantage it does effect us some." Says the co-owner of Allen Evans Bridal in Moorhead, Mark Bayer. 

Currently Minnesota is one of just seven states that do not have a tax on clothing. Minnesota also has a higher state sales tax than 88 percent of the country. North Dakota on the other hand has a lower state sales tax than about 60 percent of the country at just 5 to 7 percent.

Michelle Phillips, manager of The Wedding Planner Plus Limited, also acknowledged that wedding ceremonies have evolved. She disclosed that the ceremonies have become more intimate in nature, straying away from the big party settings. In the same breath, she noted that this occurrence is in keeping with what the bride and the groom really want. The church is no longer considered the only place for ceremonies and couples are now incorporating gardens and beachfront properties as primary locations. She admits however, that although weddings have become more intimate, nowadays, it has to be about making a huge statement. "Wedding décor has grown into elegance and extravagance. Couples are now having more cocktail receptions. Leather sofas are being employed to give a lounge setting, and chandeliers are used to give an air of sophistication," she ended.
